Several thousand years ago, the coastal regions of Norway and Sweden were inhabited by fearless seafarers - the Vikings.
In our story, however, not all Vikings are as fearless as Halva, the Chieftain of Flake. His son, Vicky, for example, is rather small and is often afraid. In fact, he is only allowed to take part in the Viking's adventures because he is so clever.
At first, the whole crew strongly object to having Vicky on board, but the men soon change their minds when Vicky proves that his quick-wittedness can save them in tricky situations. In ''The Contest'', an age-old duel of Brain vs Brawn, Vicky has to defeat his father at carrying stones to be allowed to join the Vikings when they are due to sail.. .Will his cunning or his fathers strength win through ?
